Blog Entry Plan

As i work through my blog i will try and produce a bi-weekly blog update of what i have been doing and what i am planning. My main plan is to type up a written blog for when i am working on planning but when it comes to editing and actually producing the trailer i will try and make a video commentary of me editing or filming.

So far today I have planned out my schedule, and i have explored the school for more possible locations  and back-up plans for if i cannot use the rooms as planned

Deconstruction - poster

Johnny English is a the ideal film for me to deconstuct the aspecs of since it follows the same genre of my film trailer and i plan to take example for my ideas from it. As you can see this poster has the main actors name above the film title. and the background the Main Actor (Rowan atkinson) has a very serious look showing the Action./serious side of the film but his hand is in the shape of a gun this shows that is it a comedy film as well. I also think the hand in the shape of a gun is also a reference to a Mr bean scene fomr the mr bean movie that he did.

My plan for the poster is to have a similar concept but with the two main characters staring at each other each with their own defining features

Deconstructions - Film

Deconstruction of Johnny English

I have already decided on what film I wanted to do, and that was an action film with comedy elements because that would be playing to my strengths of video editing and my keen interest in writing for comedy.

The film I have decided to de-construct is the 2003 British comedy film "Johnny English".

The film has been aimed at large audience group because the humour is very generic with no specific targets of the jokes. It also appeals to people who are familiar with the James Bond series so they can appreciate the humour and jokes.

The trailer is very good and getting the genre across without forcing it upon the audience, it also portrays the main characters and cast in an subtle fashion without once again forcing it upon the audience.

The first shot is of the ouside of a mansion at night. This is to create a serious feeling to the trailer. This could have been used to miss lead the audience. This is enhanced through out the beginning of the trailer.

Through out the trailer the theme constantly switches between action to comedy in an instance,
This i feel is used to confuse the audience but to also intrigue the audience to investigate this film more.

at 00:35 the trailers theme changes to a comedy setting and this is achieved by changing the voice overs approach. when this voice over changes to this style, it gives a sense of comedy and amusement at the main characters expense.

The trailer up to 01:19 the main character is listing all the quality's an expert agent needs however the video contradicts what he is saying as if once again to mock him.

Weekly Evaluation

Weekly Evaluation

This week i have set up the blog Started and almost Finished Scripting and will be posted in next weeks update, I have also posted the initial time plan aswell as my decsion making about my genres.

And on top of all this i have started to look for and taking pictures of possible locations for scenes for the trailer.

As for casting i have scouted out a few people for the characters, so far i have enlisted the help from a student Adam Donkin.

Scripting and storyboarding

Script:

Because I am planning a trailer i do not have a linear script and the order of the scenes can be changed,

Scene opens to a black screen with Johns voice over,

John: I said someday i want to be something more, I want to do something with my life and now's my chance

(Sweeping shots of the school)

Narrator: This Summer, Two friends must come together

(As each name is said an image of them appears in the edges of the screen)

Narrator: Shaun and Alex must stop an evil force like no other. (various shots of the antagonist in computer format and human) [i want him dead scene]

(cut to a scene of Alex talking)

Alex: How are we supposed to stop something we don't even know. It could be anyone or anything

Narrator: They have to use every skill in their arsenal to win.

(Cut to Shaun)

Shaun: What can you do?
Alex: I can Fight!

(Scene cuts to Alex and the antagonist)

Alex: You won't get away with this, we will stop you. (Alex charges and punches the antagonist to no luck)

(The shot changes to Alex running away and being shot)
(scene cuts back to Alex and Shaun)

Shaun: Good, well I hack computers in my spare time.

(Scene changes to shaun typing on a computer with Alex watching over his shoulder.)

Shaun: No No NO! (punches table)
Alex: What is it? Whats Wrong?
Shaun: Mark Canceled World of Warcraft night tomorrow
Alex: Concentrate!

(Cuts to a black screen)

Narrator: These Best Friend Will Have To Work Together To Survive

Shaun: Shhh, we have to be quiet and concentrate

(scene cuts to a image of Shaun and Alex)

Shaun:*sniff* Oh God what is that Smell

Alex: Sorry.

Narrator: John Lawrence and Adam Donkin star in Agent Green

As the final credits are being shown

Antagonist: You can Run, But you can't HIDE!

Initial and Final Decisions

For my Trailer i have thought of several ideas and genres. These included horror, thriller, action and Comedy.

In my decisions i initialy ruled out Horror and Thriller as these genres would be interesting to do but i wanted to do a trailer that used special effect to help me with my Video editing skills and knowlegde and Horror and Thiller do not require CG elements.

So in the end i had decided to do a comedy trailer with an action sub-genre. I chose this because i feel that i write better for comedy but with the action i could add in some neat CG effects (ie explosions and gunfire).

A good example of what i would like to achieve is "Johnny English" because the main genre is Comedy with an action sub-genre.
